Smoke from Horse Island burn may linger near Oak Island roads

OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) – Smoke from a controlled debris burn on Horse Island may linger near W Oak Island Drive and W Beach Drive, the Oak Island Fire Department said Thursday.

Horse Island is state-owned property just south of the Davis Canal. The fire department said the volume of smoke and debris being burned does not pose an immediate public safety hazard.

People with respiratory concerns should take note of the smoke and plan accordingly.
